Yesterday, I washed my 2016 171. On the roof I was surprised to see such a sloppy job of caulking. That sealant (What is that, a rubberized material?) was slopped around, some on the bathroom vent extension. It looks like they just threw it out of a bucket. I blind man could have done a better job. Also, it's a good thing I'm a seasoned painter. Much of the caulking is being replaced on the interior ceiling. All of this reminds me of the movie The General's Daughter, when the Captain says, "This looks like the work of ten Chimpanzees" !

The roof is sealed with Dicor, a "lap sealant" It's on the ROOF.. most owners never see or go up there in the first place. No matter how well it gets put on, it settles and moves over time anyways, and goes on with the viscosity of wet mud. Gloop or Gloping it on is about the only method.

I would much rather they did a better more careful job on the parts that show and owners see regularly.. like your interior caulking, although, as a "seasoned painter" you may have a more critical eye than many..

henryv,

Coming from a yachting background, I was a bit surprised when I first saw the generous amount of lap sealant used on the roof - actually, most all RV roofs. Now, after a few years and many thousands of miles in some pretty nasty weather, I'm glad it's up there.

Mine is the same. Its even slopped on top of the plumbing vent caps, like the guy was carrying a full brush along the roof. Although unsightly and surprising sloppy it doesn't bother me unless I'm on the ladder doing maintence(although you can see the globs on the caps from the ground)
