As we prepare for picking up our 179, I am wondering what size storage totes fit well in the storage area, especially the very front area?

Interesting and part of the fun of planning. I did a layout like in the military of everything I wanted to carry. I have a 178, so I have the complete area under the dinette and the rear pass through. I decided what needed a covered tote and what just needed a tote, what didn't. Lot of personal detail. The only covered tote I have is kitchen supplies under drivers side dinette. I raise the cushion to access. I have a tote with water stuff and one with sewer stuff, one with maintenance things and a grill, not in a tote. My advice is lay it out all you want to carry, not stuff you move in and out, and then figure out how to fit into your Pod. Happy trails.

Ditto to what Mike said in his last sentence.  I have the 179 and have 4 of the rectangle plastic containers (can't remember dimensions) plus a smaller one.  The smaller container has my sewer elbow and connector.  One container has my clean water stuff (fresh water supply hose, filter, connectors).  One has my electrical stuff (power cord, circuit analyzer, spare extension cord).  One has another garden hose and connectors. One has misc. dirty stuff (floor mats, rope...).  I have a few other items laying around the boxes.  I also keep 2 folding soccer chairs in there.  I have a separate box for leveling blocks, wheel chocks, cordless drill for stabilizer jacks.....keep this in the truck bed.  It's the first thing I pull out when arriving at camp.  I've rearranged and repacked and replaced containers multiple times trying to maximize space.....and will probably do it a few more times to make me happy.  Keep in mind, too, the size of the storage area opening.  Can't go too tall with the box.  I plan to enlarge the storage are a bit by pushing the left wall toward the shower.  It is unused space.  When you get your 179, pull up the bed and you'll see what I'm talking about.  Always tinkering with the Pod.

You may be able to move the wall toward the shower a bit, but there are some wires in there. I built a floor and now use that area for a storage area inside. That may be a better alternative than trying to enlarge the storage underneath. If you really want to enlarge that storage, moving the partitions for what would be a dinette footwell can gain you more space. I just moved the finished panel forward on it and put a non-finished piece of thin plywood in its place. I left room for the furnace to have adequate air circulation. That is a second inside storage space that has been very useful. You can see some of these mods in my mods link.

I was thinking of moving the walls in the storage area to make the "hole" under the bed smaller and gain more outside storage.
I am on page 5 of your mods, StephanH - amazing!

I did shorten the interior hole under the bed to make more room in the storage... Night and day. Now everything is easily accessible in the storage.

In our 179 we have a storage bin with drawers for all the small things, a tool bag and two totes. One tote for our water hookup (hose, elbow, regulator, filter), and the other tote for our electric hookup (power cord, surge protector, locking chain for surge protector).

When we get to the campsite it is easy to pull those two totes out and hand them over to hubby's side of the camper (hook-up's side) and I work on getting the chairs, Rdome and dog playpen set up. Behind the totes we store our outdoor rug, and a small tarp that we use under our dogs pen. Works for us.

I like the drawer unit. I may end up doing something like that also. Thanks.

On a 179 your heater is located under your bed. Any storage blocking the exhaust could be a big problem. We put items under the bed then when we setup we remove them if we are going to use the heater.
