would it be a good idea or bad to put a little dry ice in the fridge to help with initial cool down?

Whether it's a good idea or not, I don't know, but I had some leftover from something else a couple of weeks ago and I used it for that exact purpose, mostly just because I couldn't think what else to do with it.  It worked great. It doesn't take much.  I'd suggest having the exhaust fan on to get rid of the CO2, although I don't think that's a big consideration.  Pods are pretty tightly constructed.

I use the refreezable ice packs (3) to help with cool down.

We try to freeze some of our soft drinks or bottled water ahead of time for the same purpose.  Nothing extra to lug around or throw out.

You probably already know this but if you can turn the fridge on 24 hours before leaving AND have all the food you plan on bringing already cold in your home refrigerator, you are good to go.  We have used this method for going on 7 years with our 177, and no problems ever encountered.

I don't see a need for an "initial cooldown."  Just fill the fridge with cold stuff, turn it on and take off.  If you move into a new house or apartment, do you "precool" the fridge before putting stuff into it?  If you buy a new fridge, do you precool it before filling it?  I have used absorption refrigeration since 1966; kerosene, gas, electric; just fil 'em up, turn 'em on and go
