Need advice from my fellow poders. When camping in the rain with your dome in place and it comes time to check out of the campground, what do you do. So far, in the past, we keep close watch on the weather and take ours down before the rain comes. However, if we get caught in the rain, and it is still raining come check out time, what do you do. Also, what do you do with your wet and soggy dome when you get it down. Thanks for any help.

We faced this question just this past week in Eureka, MO (eclipse).
Fortunately, the rain stopped soon enough that the dome was dry (but sandy at the bottom). So we swept the bottom and stored it as usual. However, we were prepared to loosely fold it, drop it in the bed, take it home, clean it, dry it in the yard, and then pack it up.

We toss it in the bag, bring it home and lay it out on the driveway to dry. The dome dries pretty quick.

Same here, we will sometime pack it up a day or so before depending on upcoming weather. If it does get wet we will fold it, pack it an dry it out at home or the next stop.

I don't have the dome, but I do have a large screen room and have had this happen a few times. I purchased the large contractor trash bags (think green Heafty bag but huge and thick) from Sam's Club. Everything wet goes in here until I can get it home and air it out. Also search for Contractor Garbage Bags on Amazon.

The dome bag is roomy enough that the tent doesn't actually need to be neat and tidy to fit. Often when our dome is wet, we just haphazardly roll it up with no packing struggles.

Like PilotPodder, I always carry a couple of contractor bags. Dome stuffs into one just fine.
They make great ponchos too! fred |

We had it happen once or twice.. 1st defense is to watch the weather and take down early if it looks iffy.. We just put the wet dome in the bathroom a couple times. Got home, set it up and let it dry..

Those bags are great! I keep one and use it specifically as a generator cover. Other uses - folding chairs, firewood...most anything you don't want to get wet, while camping. Yes, they do make good ponchos, in a pinch. (I purchase mine at Lowes) |
