Topic: Re-fueling along your route Posted: 12 Jul 2017 at 3:10pm |
Next week will be my first long distance pull. Little Rock, Arkansas to Lexington, Kentucky. Have you ever experienced any difficulties or problems stopping at the newer larger convenience stores? Where you would possibly block two pumps? I am not a big fan of truck stops. Any recommendations?
Any other problems to look out for while traveling? |

Just watch out for those pump island barriers in smaller stations. They are trailer fender catchers!

Sometimes, blocking a pump just can't be helped. I kind of like the truck stops. They tend to be spacious, with lots of room to maneuver. |

I have seen gas stops with RV only lanes. There was one at a Shell outside Kentucky Horse Park.

That is where we are headed for our camping trip. Staying at KHP. Son works at Lanes's End thoroughbred. The Shell will be my fuel stop starting our return trip. Thanks. I hope I can work it where stops in Nashville and Memphis are avoided. I lived in Nashville and Memphis in the late 70s. |

Best for me to stop outside of large metro areas. BTW I made north of Nashville with a 1/4 tank left and I filled TV without trailer at Shell. I like Pilots and Loves, after hauling cars around US, I am patient and wait for right time to get in, gas up and get out. Happy Trails.

I noticed that now with our Good Sam membership, we are getting 5 cents off per gallon at Pilot/Flying J stops. I have a Sheets card which gives me 3 cents off per gallon. Likewise, i have a BP card which also gets me 3 cents off per gallon. Membership in Costco and Sams Club allows lower priced fill-ups. Costco has 1st tier gasoline.
If available, I will take Costco or Sams, then Pilot/Flying J, then one of the others where I have a discount. If none of those are available, I will take whatever Gas Buddy says is the best price if it is along my planned route. |

With the trailer, I stop at the bigger fueling stations...QT, Sheetz,....I figure since there are so many pumps that there will always be one coming available for the single vehicle folks. I would like to think they would understand if you do take up multiple pumps. There are always other folks doing the same...landscaping trailers, horse trailers, car trailers. I have pulled into a station that was just way too crowded, then pulled right out to look for another station.
Right at $2 per gallon here.
