We baked some conch fritters in our microwave once in six years. The rest of the time it was just inefficient storage. Finally decided to turn the space int a proper and useful space. Will be easy to convert back to microwave space if needed. |

Didn't have one to start with. That space is our pantry of sorts. I put a door over the opening with a cam lock. Much better use of space, for us anyway.

We used ours a lot, very rarely as a microwave, but when we had hook ups we baked in it. Wouldn't have missed it much if we didn't have it though.
That looks good. There is a place to get the netting that FR uses elsewhere in the Pod, if you wanted "closure" LOL |

Yeah that looks nice....if my r-pod had a regular propane oven I'd remove the microwave also. But it is handy when on shore power for baking a pizza or popping some popcorn.....

I have some of that netting, but don't like it. A small lip on both shelves and the baskets seem to work fine. Just finished trip up to Camden, ME and back. Nuthin fell out. BTW, had some scrap sapele wood sitting around. A little paste wax and it's a perfect match for the pod cabinet color. Oh, and if a put a net or door on it how would the cat get in it? |

Greetings: Don't put anything over the Refridgerater if it will be effected by heat. A certain amount of heat rises up into that area. Crankstrer78 R-179

So that's where the microwave is supposed to go. We've never had one there, so the space has always been used for storage. To avoid the heat problem above the refrigerator, when I put in the new refrigerator, I put some insulation under the microwave space. I also added some small slats to lift the storage bin above the floor of the space a little bit and allow some air circulation. Heat build up problem solved.

The microwave (and TV) were removed upon purchase of our RPod. Why? - We wanted the additional storage space where the microwave was installed. - We boondock and don't want to run a generator just to use the microwave. - We do quite well, power-wise, with our solar panel and batteries and Wave 4 propane heater. - We don't watch TV when camping, we read books and listen to the radio. Different strokes for different folks. It's camping out!

Like geewizard we also do not have the following but special ordered our 177 from the factory to NOT include: microwave/convection oven, entertainment system, A/C. That was back in January 2011. So here we are nearly 9 years and 34,000 miles later and guess what - no regrets! Still normally boondock as we camp in national forest campgrounds or national parks but occasionally will treat ourselves to a nice state park and have electricity now and then. Yes, we still feel like glampers as compared to when we tent camped and had our pop-ups. Our 177 and corresponding r-dome have served us well.

Wow....we sure need our A/C units down south, otherwise the camper is almost unusable for several months per year. If it's 90 degrees or even 80 degrees at midnite....thats just too warm to sleep comfortably....
