Topic: Maintaining the battery Posted: 30 Dec 2022 at 1:34pm |
I have a 2021 192. I have a 30A outlet at my house and I leave the 192 plugged in to the 30A outlet when it is being stored. Should I have the battery disconnect switch on or off when the 192 is being stored while connected to the 30A power? How about when I am connected to the 30A at a campground and I am using the 192? And, should the battery disconnect switch be on or off when I am towing the 192 with the trailer pug connected to the truck?
Thanks,

The only time I would disconnect it would be when there is no outlet available to maintain the battery.

+1 If you plan on not using it for a period of more than a few days simply disconnect the ground (-) cable or turn the disconnect switch to off.

Leave it connected but if it's a flooded type battery (one that has removable caps on it) check the water level every few weeks.
Leaving a lead acid battery on charge is better for it because it will self discharge if disconnected. But while it's on float charge it's producing a little gas (breaking the water down into hydrogen and oxygen). The gassing is normal and desirable but the water needs to be replaced. If it's a "sealed" (actually valve regulated) battery it will recombine the oxygen and hydrogen internally. If it's flooded you need to do this manually yourself (by adding only distilled water). Don't let the battery plates become exposed to air.
