Topic: Fixed Battery Drain with Eveything "OFF" Posted: 10 Jul 2013 at 4:14pm |
This post addresses what I call "fixed" battery loads. Those loads that remain when everything is supposedly off. I measured these by removing each fuse that showed current flowing as indicated by the red blown fuse lighting when the fuse was removed. In my 2013 RP-172 there were three such fuses: #3, #5 and #8. The currents measure were:
Fuse #3 LP-DSI (propane Det.) 70 mA. Fuse #5 Front Lights (thermostat) 13 mA. Fuse #8 Fridge (electronics only) 0.9 mA.
These loads are present when you think all DC lights, fan, fridge, WH, etc. are off and will drain the battery eventually if the Pod is not plugged in.
I emphasize these readings and mappings are for a 2103 RP-172. According to FR's motto "Let no two Pods be built the same" they may not be the same for other models.

They may not be the same as other 2103 Rp-172s. Two factories and different build cycles. Case in point all of the labels on my fuse panel are wrong. Apparently the labels are only a suggestion that the workers in the factory may choose to ignore if they so choose.

Point made! On mine the labels do not line up horizontally with the fuses, but they are in the correct order. You have to count down from the top to determine what the fifth fuse down does, etc.

The main reason why I installed a master switch on the battery box. 1/4 turn and the batteries can no longer be drained. I didn't like the idea of having to kneel down, open an access panel, switch off a master switch, close the panel and then do the reverse when I needed to turn the 12VDC back on. I simply go to the Pod's tongue and rotate one switch.

I plan on adding a second battery. When I do that I think I'll add the switch. Right now I put the Pod in a storage area here where I live and take the battery to the house. A pain in the butt that would be multiplied with 2 batteries.

Do you know what the label "MP" means on circuit 1 on the battery side of the electrical panel? This is a 2015 R Pod 178.
