We were able to get a great deal on a once used Rdome.  But the bottom skirt mystifies me. The lower channel has a break to accommodate the wheel. There is a front channel and a rear one on the door side of my 179. There is no way to thread from the front and the back. Either or. Plus the channel butts right to the fender.

Now don't tell me not to use it because we want to keep the dog in and the bugs out. We need to make this work. If any one uses the bottom skirt with the Rdome on a 179, I would love to here from you.

See you Texas podders in East Texas in the fall for the group campout.

Doesn't matter the model, they all have this issue. The answer is to cut the skirt into two pieces, a front and a back. You will also need to make a verticle cut to allow for your models step placement. The domes are generic, and not model, or even Pod specific. They actually come from the popup world. The skirt is not very dog proof.

Thanks. I had not thought about cutting. I think I will have solid canvas ones made to work with the standard channel instead especially for dog proofing.

Several owners have done that.

I didn't cut the screen skirt, I just put a slit in it to accommodate where the axle went.  Same thing for the steps.  I reinforced it with duct tape in hopes that the screen won't unravel.

I recently called Forest River about this, and what they told me is that the RDome's currently out there do not work with the RP-179.  They said that they are coming out with a new Rdome which will be exclusively for the 179.  They don't have them yet, they were supposed to be there by now, and they expect them anytime.  They didn't say if they will be distributing them to the dealerships, or if one would have to order it from them directly.

As everyone has suggested, you'll need to make a couple cuts in the skirt to accommodate the axle and the step.  I suggest that you make three *vertical* cuts from the ground that go approx 1/2 up the skirt: one for the axle, and one on either side of the step (so that the middle piece hangs down behind the step.)

One caution tho: that skirt isn't going to keep a keen dog inside the rdome.

I decided to take the skirt on the RDome for my 179 and have two panels of skirts made, one for in front of the wheel and one for behind the wheel.  Leave the step collapsed and a small step stool in front of the door.  The stiffer new skirt may keep  my dog within.
