Just wondering about your Colorado. Gas or Diesel?
We aren't Podders yet, because we are researching if our 2016 z71 3.6L is enough to pull the 179 model. Thanks for your input! |

Welcome to the group!! We tow our 179 with our 2013 Dodge Grand Caravan with a Pentastar 6 cylinder, puts our 283 horse. We have been towing from Vermont up and down the east coast with ease.

We tow OurPod with an Audi Q7 TDI, getting between 13 and 17 mpg at max 60mph. Quattro is wonderful in sand/ mud/ grass, and we use an Equal-i-zer WDH to keep all four paws on the ground.

The Trailer Life towing guide for 2016 (http://www.trailerlife.com/trailer-towing-guides/) shows a couple of configurations for the Chevy 3.6L vehicles, and i'm guessing you have the Colorado, not the Traverse. Without the towing package, your capacity is 3500 pounds, but it jumps to 7000 pounds with the package. In my opinion, and others WILL differ, 3500 pounds is barely enough.

We were towing with a 2016 Ford Escape 2L Ecoboost with towing package. It was adequate, but better is the higher tow rating with the towing package. That will also come with the transmission cooler and connectors for the trailer wiring in addition to the hitch. The one area where the Escape was better than our current 2010 Nissan Frontier LE Crew Cab with 4L V6 is in power at any significant altitude. The turbocharger compensates for altitude. The Frontier looses 4% power per 1000 ft of elevation. The Escape did not. The transmission had a couple more gears also so it was somewhat better in the mountains than the Frontier. The reason for the tow vehicle change was not the tow rating, but the accident we had in December when we hit a combination of ice and a 40 mph crosswind that was too much for the vehicle to manage. I don't think the Frontier would have done much better in that situation. Because the Escape was out of commission for an extended period, we needed something to get us and our patched-up R-Pod home. Jim, Thanks for posting the link to the Trailer Towing Guides. That was informative. The 2017 issue has a lot of useful information about hitches and other topics. I will be reading that more thoroughly. |

We're lugging our (new to us) 177 around with a '02 Toyota 4Runner. I love Toyotas, this is actually my 3rd 4Runner. However, with that said, the 3.4L and the 4 speed tranny are DOIN WORK to drag the R Pod up and down the mountains here in VA. I also have 31" all-terrain tires; not helping. I'll give it credit, though--foot on the floor, climbing long, steep grades, the temp gage never budges, and the A/T oil light never comes on. I couldn't imagine altitude efficiency/power loss out west. Toyota claims 4,000 lb towing capacity, but I ain't buyin' it. The ~2,600 lbs empty of the 177 is all it wants. Besides the power, however, with the WDH and anti-sway bar, it tows great. Also did the Tundra front brake upgrade conversion, that helped considerably with stopping.

Towing our 2016 1/2 with a 20102 Toyota 4Runner4wd rated 5,000lbs Plenty of power and no issues. We broke down kicking and screaming and got an Equalizer hitch. I'm now a believer. It is amazing the difference and ease in towing. I never would have tried it if it wasn't able to be returned and now I'd never go back to just a sway bar.

We just bought our 176 a few weeks ago. We will be towing with our 2013 Subaru Outback 3.6R V6. We had a anti-sway stablizer hitch put on. So far so good.
