Barstow:  Owl Canyon BLM Campground 23 primitive sites, 5 restrooms, grills, fire pits, shaded cement tables, playground and hiking trails.  There is also a limited supply of water.  Great views!  Located next to Rainbow Basin Natural Area.

Cost:  $6.00 per day.


Bombay Beach:  Salton Sea State Recreation Area has numerous primitive sites with port-a-johns.

Cost:  $7.00 per day.  $5.00 per day for 62+


Chiriaco Summit:  parking areas have free overnight usage.  Watch for "Free Dry Camping" signs.  There are MANY parking lots in this area to use.  Name is pronounced:" ShRAY-co Summit"

Cost:  FREE!


Mecca:  Salton Sea State Recreation Area  has 6 campgrounds with primitive sites.

Cost: $17.00 per day for primitive.  With hookups = $23.00 per day.  $2.00 discount for 62+


Palo Verde:  Oxbow BLM has boondocking with vault toilets and dumpsters.

Cost: $15.00 per day


Salton City:  Palm Beach dry camp, Salton Community Service District has 30 pull through sites + tent sites.  Water available.  Some sites have tables.  Restrooms with flush toilets.

Cost:  $8.00 per day.  Tents are $4.00 per day.


Yermo:  Peggy Sue's Nifty Fifties Diner, a very large place, has free overnight parking.  Restrooms inside can be used. 

Regular Diner food plus authentic pizza shop, ice cream shop, and gift shop!  Small attraction in rear!

Cost:  Free!  (so buy some good eaten!)

Please note this: during the summer the areas around the Salton Sea are HOT and buggy!
