Hi, I have a Ram 1500 and it is time to replace the 20" tires. I am wondering what would be a good tire for a full sized truck towing a pod on long trips. Can other pod owners with pickup trucks can tell me what tire brands they are using and how the like their tires?

I presume you're talking about 20" wheels?
Assuming that is correct, the type of tire that is preferable for towing would be ones that have stiffer sidewalls. Since a pod is pretty light to begin with, my opinion is that any light truck (LT) tire would be more than adequate. That said, lighter sidewalls make for a smoother ride. Another thought is that 20" wheels are more for appearance than "truck like" performance. Larger wheels with shorter sidewalls generally will corner better at the expense of a smoother ride.

Wepod,
BF Goodrich Long Trail Fan here. Not as aggressive as the All-Terrains. I owned several sets. Good in poor road conditions and durable. Not a fan of wimpy side walls. |

My Silverado has 20" Goodyear Eagle LS2 tires, from the factory. I've been towing with them for going on 4 seasons now...no complaints. They are a "street/performance" type tire but, the sidewall is not ridiculously short. I've never really been concerned as they just are not being asked to endure excessive loading. My tongue is in the 500-600lbs range and I use an E2 WD hitch set up. By my simple way of thinking, 500-600lbs. is roughly equivalent to approx. 3-4 adults OR 2 mother-in laws! ![]() Keep a watchful eye on inflation pressures and you will probably be fine with most any reputable tire type & manufacturer. |

My original tires - 20" rims - lasted 70k miles, so I replaced them, and got 60+ out of the second set. So I got a third set. My dealer is also a Ford dealer, and Ford had a sale on them and I got a rebate. Michelins are good but I am not sure they are three times as good, comparing prices.

John. You talking about the oem Goodyear tires? I am looking at the Michelans but I was not looking at the AT tires. I was thinking that they might be a bit nosiey on the highway.

I tow my 179 with a 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee.
My other vehicle is a 2008 Ram 1500 4x4, 17" rims, that has 20k on the Michelin LTX A/T2 tires referenced in earlier posts. They are not noisy. They appear to be wearing better the the OEM Goodyears that I got 40k on. The first replacements, which I was very disappointed in, were Bridgestone Dueler AT Revo 2 that I replaced at 35k. I like the Michelins on the Ram. I plan on replacing the OEM Jeep tires with Michelin LTX A/T2 tires next year. This year I replaced the 179 Pod's OEM Load Range C tires with Goodyear Endurance Load Range D tires. The trailer feels more stable and I feel a lot better about towing it.
