the wing nut on my negative battery terminal keeps loosening to the point of causing a short, even on fairly short trips. I doubt I can use something like locktite because it's not conductive. Anyone have this problem? Solutions?

Switch to regular nuts and use a second one on top to act as a lock-nut. I only use one regular nut on each of the terminals, and have not had a problem with them coming loose. I do tighten them down with a wrench. That might be what is making the difference.

Maybe get some split lock washers. I wouldn't advise using star washers because of the limited electrical contact.
