Topic: Any problems with 1000 generator charging battery Posted: 11 Jan 2018 at 11:14pm |
Is anyone having trouble charging their 12v battery with a 1000w generator on the RPod? The 1000w works just fine on two other trailers (a Nash and a Casita) that I've tried. Thanks in advance.

If all you want to do is charge batteries, it will work fine. We have at least one owner using a 800 watt Honda, no issues.

LvyaRain,
If you are asking if you can use 1K to charge battery answer is yes. If you're saying it's not working on your Pod but works on two other TTs, you have a problem, and it is not the genset. Is the battery you are trying to charge - good? Everything hooked up correctly? Something is happening here, if the genset is not charging battery.

Also keep in mind that your 1000 watt generator if it’s a Honda EU1000 rated at 900 watts which gives you only 7.5 amps of AC. If your battery is severely discharged that may cause issue. I have seen my battery charger on the Pod draw more than 7.5 amps to bring a battery up to where it should be.

It's got to be something else. The WFCO 55 amp charger only draws ~~ 660 watts when at full charge current. That would be an approximate 6 amp draw on the generator. Does not give you a lot of headroom, but it should be sufficient.

I have on my Pod a WFCO WF-8955 and its rated for 950 watts, about 8 amps. The other things to check is if there are any other AC appliance running drawing current from your generator. If you have a volt meter you can hook it up to the battery and see what voltage your charger is outputting. It should be between 13.6-14.4 depending on how low the battery is.
