With much deliberation, I did switch to AT&T.

I thank you all for your input as always, it does mean a lot!

I took the risk and it workout for my area.  Stronger 4g LTE signal. Though less than what Comcast offers (by half), I've yet to see any difference. Comcast is over-charing and Verizon is under performing.

Now to see how it works on the road!

More to come on this matter.

When I traveled for a living, many of my co-workers had AT&T I have Verizon. There were a lot of places they had no or poor service while I had no issues.

AT&T here too. It's the only carrier that has data coverage in the part of West Virginia where my mother-in-law lives. She's on our mobile share plan. Getting free mobile streaming of DirecTV Now content is nice too.

Most companies in the communications business engage in some pretty deceptive practices, especially with their special offers and such. In my experience ATT/Direct TV is one of the worst. I am still involved in a protracted battle with them over a rate increase they tried to impose last March. I was promised 2 years of level pricing for Direct TV service, then they decided to double the rate after a year. I cancelled and they tried to charge a substantial cancellation fee.  I received repeated abusive calls from their retention department and finally turned off the phone after call blocking proved ineffective. I have invited them to join me in court to decide the case, but they have so far only continued their harassment efforts, now reduced to once every 4 months or so.

This is a deceptive company that makes many promises but keeps few.

I had a work phone with ATT for many years and the service was good in some areas but not in others. The company wisely switch to Verizon and there was a noticeable improvement in service all over the country. As for international service, which I used a lot, there is no difference because both companies contract with the cell carriers in the country you visit so, with your international call sim chip, all you do is get rerouted to the local cell provider.

i agree with jato, Glueguy, and Live2Camp.

Right now, we are on Republic Wireless. I have had issues with both Verizon and AT&T that make those much less desirable options. Republic does use either Sprint (CDMA) or T-Mobile (GSM) networks, depending on which model phone. Mine uses T-Mobile but the great thing is if I have a WiFi connection, it will use that for calling and data, switching as needed to cell. It worked pretty well when we went on the cruise last August. Admittedly, T-Mobile's network is not as extensive as Verizon's or AT&T's, but WiFi makes up for that in a great part.

However, in this case, if one wants the television streaming of DirectTV, then AT&T seems to be the way to go. That is not something that interests me though.

Have to agree with Glueguy and Live2Camp.  Coverage is everything.  If your travels favors one over the other to a great degree, go with that carrier.  I am like the above posters, for the majority of my travels, and friends, verizon is a winner hands down.

We had AT&T for many years, they had good coverage in RURAL Vermont and good coverage on the East Coast.

I agree re: location. Most of my solo camping is in California's Sierra Nevada and eastern Sierra, so being able to check in with my guy is really important. And in all but the most narrow & deep canyons, I can call and text - or at least text - with my Verizon service. Here in the coast mountains as well, Verizon is generally proven to work far more reliably than other services. Can you get friends who have AT&T to test in the areas you need to travel? I hope whatever you choose works great for you!

A friend who travels internationally for work has his work phone ATT.  He says ATT has the best coverage.  Except in America.  Since I use my phone in America I stayed with Verizon.

It really (I mean REALLY) depends on where you are. Where we live, AT&T is zero; as in no bars. Verizon, while not great is usually 2, and sometimes 3 bars.

So we have a choice, of zero or 2. We chose 2.
