(Thinking out loud again) Do you think it would be helpful (especially for new members) to have a Front/Home page topic area for general forum stuff? I'm thinking broad things like - how to post a picture, how to reply to a post, how and when to start a new post, using the "New Post" at the top to see everything new since the last visit, etc? |

Probably - I have noticed some misplaced posts and post started within posts with different subjects, minor peeves.

I agree it couldn't hurt, I can always use a refresher and guide list as my computer skills are fairly limited. I am from the ole notebook and pen days

Good idea. On another site I help moderate, we have a FAQ page that has that sort of information on it. The question is whether to allow full access to edit the wiki or create a white list of people who can, which of course could have people added to it as need be.

FAQ might be another (maybe better) way of putting it and I have seen this on other forums, both terminologies. On one hand, I sometimes see very good/helpful info that gets lost/buried in threads (posting pictures comes to mind). In another situation, a member was in need of help but, posted the request for help at the end of another thread, of a different subject. Fortunately, a good Samaritan (mcarter) saw it and suggested/advised the person to start a new thread. On the other hand, I ask myself if “the juice is worth the squeeze”. Would enough people actually read/use it to make it worth OUR effort? (Notice the plural) If enough think we (plural) should do this, I would confer with the other Admins. If they like it too, then I would be willing to set it up. However, I think members should provide the knowledge base. I have enough to do already and you folks are smarter than me. I envision something above the "introduce yourself" that says something like "before getting started, read this first". |

If you mean above "Introduce Yourself" on the main page, then I agree that would be as good of a place as any. It should be prominent so that people's eyes are drawn to it, but not garish.

So you are thinking of a wiki that talks about the care and feeding of the forum? Other subject(s) could actually be things that are common to all Rpod owners. Things like arrival/departure checklists, storage checklists (AKA winterizing), water heater maintenance, troubleshooting a malfunctioning microwave/converter/furnace/whatever.

Techntrek has always been the keeper of the RPod owners manual, it's accessible from his signature and many of the things that have to do with RPod issues are there. Like water heaters, microwaves, winterizing, etc. I think we need a forum etiquette guideline. like FAQs and how to appropriately use the forum, how not to hijack or maybe try and read the previous post(s), so you don't have 4 people saying exactly the same thing in 4 different posts, because they never looked at the previous posts :)
