Hello all,

I'm looking to replace the stock flip foot trailer jack on my 2016 177 Hood River. Does anyone have a manual crank model that has proven durable? Also, my TV has a back up cam so I do not need a model with a wheel.

Thanks!

Has the jack failed? Is it just the flip foot you are having problems with? If it is the flip foot, you can remove that and get a round or rectangular plate that clips on using the holes where the flip foot is attached. Some of them are adjustable so you can gain some extra height if needed.

That's a good idea. I wasn't aware I could just remove or mod the flip foot.

Yes, just generally I do not like the flip foot. It hangs down super low and I dry camp in some rugged places with rutted roads and I'm confident I'll hang it on a rock some day. I've scraped it accidentally a couple of times as well. From day one it never really easily lowered in to place automatically. I always had to kick it in to place.

Do you have any links to a replacement for the flip foot?

Thanks!

We replaced our flip foot with a swivel wheel. It uses a detachable clip to hold it in place when we're using it, and we just remove it altogether when we are traveling. That has the most clearance of all.

That sounds good. Do you have a model or make on that so I can look it up? I live in a small town and have to order everything.

Thanks!

We got this one with our Purpleline trailer mover. It's good for 2,000 lb load. Kind of overkill, but they threw it in with the mover.

Not a fan of roller wheels on a Pod, why- they roll. You mess up they roll. Best to have a flat stand that does not permit roll. You're not going to move it easily on a roll wheel. Like a boat trailer. IMHO.

Not particularly fond of that either, except with the Purpleline, we need the nose to roll. The good news is that the Purpleline will hold the trailer stationary on up to a 30° degree slope. Not that I intend to do that, I will always chock the wheels and put down the stabilizers, but the Purpleline can add additional braking.

Just do a search on Amazon for "Jack Foot Plate" and you will come up with several options for foot plates from low ones to tall ones. Prices are under $20 for most choices. Just make sure you get one of the proper diameter to fit the leg on your jack.

I had a flip foot on my 171 and one time got the bolt jammed that the foot moves on when you crank it down. It literally sheared off and shot across the campsite. Fortunately, I wasn't standing in the way. From that point on, I wanted to go electric. On the 179, I spent the big bucks and got a Husky and love, love, love it. I'll never go back. If you have WDH, it is so nice to not have to crank.
