Topic: Do I turn off hwh and water? Posted: 16 May 2018 at 5:37am |
I am leaving my campground for 2 days. Do I turn off the water heater, the city water supply and drain the black /grey tanks? Thanks for your help.

I always shut the HWH and water or water pump off when I’m away from the pod even for just the day but I would not bother with the black and grey tanks. Just my opinion.

If you're leaving the camper for a day or more turn off the WH gas and electric sources. Why waste energy?
If you're leaving the camper for even a few hours turn off the pump and any city water connection. Campers are notorious for springing leaks. If a fitting pops loose while you're away you've got a real mess and possible water damage problems. Just turn off the water supply and remember to turn it on when you return.
Black and gray tanks no problem. Leave them alone.

It's just me (maybe) but I ONLY turn on the water heater and the water pump when I need them. The water heater heats up pretty rapidly, even 15 minutes may be enuf.
I didn't think about turning off the city water when gone for awhile. That seems to be a good idea.

I do that when boondocking and running only gas. The electric heater is a bit of a pain to turn off and on, requiring either a trip outside or bending way down to flip a breaker.

To follow-up I also depressurize the system after turning off the water supply. So I turn the faucet on for a second to relieve pressure in the lines.
