Topic: Construction Adhesive residue....and removal Posted: 05 Jun 2018 at 4:06pm |
Our 177 has numerous construction adhesive blobs, streaks, and fingerprints on one of the front wall/ceiling panels. These are left over from manufacturing. They seems to be getting more noticeable as the unit ages. And yes, we missed them when we did the walk-through since they were barely visible then.
Any suggestions on how to remove that stuff? I've tried brake cleaner, rubbing alcohol, DEET bug spray so far.

Goof off night work - just test it somewhere inconspicuous to make sure it doesn't affect the finish.

Are you talking Goo Gone? Goof off is what I do?

I had this same problem with my 2017 RP-179. I used some mineral spirits in the attempt to remove the adhesive. The mineral spirits did make subtle changes to the interior finish where I applied it and rubbed the surface. I thought that mineral spirits would be less aggressive than acetone or Goof Off. My point is, test carefully before using solvents on any part of the interior of your pod.

I contacted Forest River. They suggested Goo B Gone or acetone. I tried both and neither did anything.
I'm thinking I need to paint over the glue or replace the panel. Forest River said to contact the parts department for a new panel.
BUT.....that means removing molding and such. I wonder how much damage to adjacent surfaces I'll do removing it.
I need to do something because every time I step into the RPod, I get pissed that the factory workers did that AND I didn't see it on the dealer walk-through.
Any ideas?

Get a really cool poster of a scene in the Alaska wilderness and glue it to the wall.
It'll make your Pod feel much more spacious in addition to hiding the glue stain.
