We looked at Rpods's at 3 different dealers in Arizona before we found Tom's Camperland at the Surpise location. They just started selling the Pods but have sold other small units over the years,and we couldn't be happier! The best part was they put no pressure on us to buy now, answered all our questions and spent over 2 hours going over everything on the unit before we towed away. Dave in the shop even set up the Dometic awning for us and showed me how to install it and remove it. If in the market in Arizona for a pod check them out!

We bought the 171 and had the class 3 hitch, Prodigy brake controller and 7 pin connector installed on the Jeep, just wish the fuel mileage was better towing. Depending on the hills I get 10-16 mpg.

Hello, welcome to the forum! We pull our Pod with a jeep liberty v/6 auto that's 4x4 and rated for 5000 pounds. I only wanted to go about half that rating because of all the mountains out here in Az. We use a Prodigy brake controller with 7 pins and a class 3 hitch. The only issue was we had to put an extension on the jeep to clear the spare tire with the hitch. Of course we can't swing the gate open on the jeep when we are hooked up.

Be sure to turn off the overdrive when pulling the camper. If you don't the tranny will be shifting up and down a lot. That is very hard on it. Do you have the towing package? If not, get it. Another thing you can do later on is change out the 3.73 gears to 4.10 gears. That will give you more power.

Thanks for the quick reply. I was a little concerned about Tom's Camper Land...especially since I have been an engineer for 35 years. You are very smart to keep the rating to 50% for safety reasons. The tests are all done under the best circumstances. I do the same.
I have a 2005 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited. We have not been anywhere that would allow us to purchase a travel trailer like the Rpod because our vehicle is not rated for it...must be low profile like our current pop up. At Tom's Camperland they said 'no problem' and would have hooked us up and sent us on our way. A very dangerous way to do business. I had to explain and add that if I had tried to tow the Rpod and had an accident, my insurance would not cover it.

Hi Bob,
Before we went out to buy we researched what was available to tow with our Jeep. We found a handful of small lightweight campers in the 2000 pound range that would be good for the two of us. I checked with Chrysler on the tow ratings and was careful about tongue weights.
There is a lot of info available and many kinds of campers, trailers, even pop-ups today to fit any car. Ther are people pulling pods with crv's and rav 4's, and the only downside with a jeep is the short wheelbase makes it harder to back up and sway is possible if you are unbalanced when loaded.
Try the sportsman's classic sold at little dealer, it is under 2000 and comes in 14,16 17 foot models, lower profile and 13 inch wheels.
