I've covered my R-Pod for the winter and winterized it. I still have power connected to the R-pod. Is this necessary?

If the battery is still connected then yes. If the battery is disconnected but still on the Pod you can disconnect the power but reconnect it and the battery for a day every two months. You are trying to maintain a charge on the battery. If the battery has been totally removed there is no need to maintain power on the Pod.

I take the battery out of my Pod and store it in my basement over the winter which is probably over kill considering of where I live. I also keep 120VAC shore power to the camper all winter only because if I want to do some work in it I have lights. If you don't see yourself working inside your Pod then there is no need to have shore power to it.

If it has power all winter long, there is zero reason to remove the battery. In fact, any time you remove it, you add to the possibility of having a 12v issue from either a shorted battery lead, or accidental reverse polarity when reinstalling. In a dozen years, We have never removed our camper batteries for any reason other then mods or replacement. We have FHU's at home.

+1 to the above. I did install a battery cut-off switch, but that is for times I have to disconnect the battery when it won't have shore power. It is at the dealer's still and the switch was off when I left. When we go to pick it up, the switch will be turned back on and then left on as I installed a 30A RV outlet so our 'Pod can stay plugged in.

Here in MN it can get to -30 so even though I have a 30 amp plug, I take out the battery and put it on a "smart charger" for the winter.  I have a grp 27.

If a lead acid battery is charged it has a freezing temp of -80F. If the Pod onboard charger works it should maintain the charge.


That said I suppose it's valid to question whether the WFCO charger will indeed work at -30F. As long as it doesn't stay at -30 it should be OK.
