I received a condemnation from another forum today that relates to "mining". Basically what I did was recommend to another user the forums that could enhance their RV experience I was told that is against forum rules. I didn't and won't disagree, but feel in this world of free transfer of knowledge and services, that is an archaic rule. If a person can't use or transfer their knowledge it limit our ability to transfer knowledge, which I personally believe is in jeopardy across the interweb. I'll abide by their rules, however will NOT continue to believe the transfer of knowledge is free. Nuff said. Facebook be darned.

I agree, it's totally silly.  It may have something to do with ad revenue though.  We go off on some tangents here, but it seems like we generally try to provide the best info we can.  To that end, it seems a shame that we can't say that there is more, better, info on such and such a forum no matter where we're posting.  Sharing info is pretty much what the internet is all about.

So either they are afraid of losing ad revenue, or click revenue, or both?

I have been a bad boy. I was just blocked  by the Facebook page  for critizing Forest River management.

I do not believe I have ever heard or seen this happen here. I personally talk about other groups, forums, and pages from time to time. If you feel like you have been moderated in some manner for mentioning other resources, please let an admin know.

Sorry, I didn't mean we couldn't do that here.  I meant we apparently can't do it everywhere.  You're right, I don't recall any complaints about mentioning other fora here.  I don't recall them coming up very often, but they have.

I'm not sure what kind of blinders people wear that they don't already know that there are other forums out there.  I don't do Facebook, but maybe some of those folks don't realize the internet extends beyond Facebook?

Wow, it never occurred to me that some internet boards/forums have rules against referring to other boards/forums.  And what the heck is "mining" in internetspeak? But, I don't do twitter, facebook, etc. so what I know about internet etiquette could be written on the head of a pin, along with the dancing angels of Thomas Aquinas.

This is the only discussion forum I participate in, apart from my many posts in the comment sections of the Washington Post, where I engage in all kind of political, religious, philosophical, etc rants about the current state of affairs in the world.  I am glad we have reasonable rules here with moderation that respects all participants.  We are fortunate, indeed.

I only participate in this forum, a truck forum, and one industry forum (that is actually a mailing list, not a forum). This is new to me.
