Can anybody provide camping info for the New York City area? I have bee to NYC in a car and it was frightening. Want a place we can camp and drive to a train or subway terminal.

Also the Niagara Falks area. Camp grounds?

I'm not sure about NYC but on your way to Niagara Falls it would be a good idea to plan a couple of days in the Finger Lakes region.  Lot's of state parks, small towns & beautiful scenery in the area.  Skaneateles is a nice little town.

Check out NY's Parks, Recreation, and Historic Preservation web site for information about camping in state parks in NY. The link is:  https://parks.ny.gov/camping/campsites/default.aspx
Other than that, you could use the RV Parky app to locate campsites. I have used this app quite a bit. There are several listed in the Niagara Falls area, both on the US and Canadian sides. It also lists several areas on Long Island, but not much choice in NY City itself.

I want to stay outside NYC and drive to a train terminal to go into manhattan. I am not pulling a trailer into NYC. Long Island would be an option. That way I would miss all the city traffic.

Check out Liberty Harbor it is just a parking lot with hook-ups but it is just across the river from the city.

There is a state park about 10-15 minutes northeast of the the falls, right on the lake. You can see the Toronto skyline on a clear day. Sadly I can't remember the name of the state park, but it shouldn't be too hard to find on the internet. There are also a couple state parks on the southwest side along Lake Erie, would say an hour or so away from the falls that are worthy too.

I would look in New Jersey. There is regular train service between New Jersey and NYC. Heck, the whole state of New Jersey is relatively small, you could probably walk across the state in a day.

NYC is not a vacation stop for RVers.  There is Liberty Park in Jersey City, NJ.  As was stated above nothing more than a parking lot and very expensive (over $100).  However it is most convenient to walk to a train station and be in NYC in ten minutes.  You will have to leave the highway and maneuver city streets to get to it so not for the faint of heart.  Do a YouTube search of Traveling Robert New York City and you will see what it will be like.  The only other campgrounds are in Sussex county in the Northwest part of NJ and no mass transit to NYC or the New Jersey Shore which does have some trains going into NYC.  But slow and will take 90 minutes.  Best bet is to stay at either location whichever is cheaper and drive to Secaucus, its right off the NJ turnpike park in lot and take train in NYC (ten minutes).  Niagara Falls has lots of options for camping.  And there is plenty to see taking a trip from Niagara Falls to NYC (eg. Baseball Hall of Fame, Lucille Ball museum and National Comedy Center, Herkimer Diamonds (not real diamonds but you can mine them and keep all you dig up which you will dig up they are in the Smithsonian museum, Curtis Wright museum, Corning museum, Howe canverns etc etc etc.  Great road trip
