We frequently camp with other friends, and in the morning it's hard to tell if our friends are up, awake and ready to start the day. Does anyone have any clever ways to show your camping buddies that you're awake a ready for company?

Most RVs have tinted glass, or there's minimal lights on inside that can't be seen from the outside.

We thought of placing something on the picnic table, a small flag on Pod's door handle etc. but can't think of an easy, recognizable signal. Any ideas...? Ying Yang

Seeing someone outside brewing coffee and/or cooking breakfast on the camp stove is a good indicator. Smile

If I smell bacon, or am cooking it, that is a failsafe indicator.Approve

The dog trick works for me as well. Pomeranians are small but they have even tinier bladders, so its get up at first light or face the consequences. At least he lets me know....

We are early risers so very early, I'm usually sitting outside sipping on a mug of coffee while my wife makes arepas and chocolate on the stove inside, trying to stay warm.

I had to look up arepas since I had never heard of them before. They sound delicious. Unfortunately, I will never find out. I have a problem with corn. It causes migraines and other problems such as skin rashes. It took me years to trace down the cause of my migraines. Once I stopped eating corn, I no longer had them. I have not had the recurring rashes either. It seems like it is some component of the corn other than the starch since corn starch does not seem to cause problems. I miss corn on the cob, but I will continue to stay away from corn since the problems it ccauses are much worse than any benefit it might offer.

It turns out it runs in the family. My mother said she had to stop eating corn also although she did not go into specifics of what it was doing to her.

OTOH, pancakes are great as I have no problem with gluten. They can be done with the griddle plate on our Coleman grill-stove along with bacon and eggs. Smile

Wow. That is really too bad. I really love corn, and it would be difficult to not have it. According to this article, the likely culprit is corn protein...

StephenH, that's a terrible situation.  There is nothing like a good cornbread cooked in a cast iron skillet or Dutch oven with bacon grease.  And here in Colombia arepas are as ubiquitous as tortillas in Mexico.

My wife gets migraines and we have yet to identify the triggering mechanism except possibly very bright lights.  It's a really disabling syndrome.  She takes naproxen sodium immediately on getting the "little light spots" in the field of her vision and immediately lies down in as dark a space as possible.  Thankfully, they usually don't get worse, though she feels yucky for the rest of the day.
