Yes, get some ST rated tires with a D load range and don't worry about that cool looking aggressive tread that really serves no purpose other than ego satisfaction.  Goodyear and Carlyle make good trailer tires.

+ 1 aggressive treads just increase rolling resistance. It’s not like you really need better traction on the trailer, they’re not drive wheels.

One slight disagreement. The tread will help with braking on snow or wet roads. It's really embarrassing to have your trailer pass you in the next lane Wink. That said, good truck tires in these sizes are getting hard to find.

What tire pressure are you running, should be close to 50lbs.

That only applies to load range C tires. My Load Range D Carlisle tires get 65psi. Load range E tires can go to 80 psi if I recall correctly.

65 lbs on my Loadstar LRD's as well.

Off road tires are generally worse in the wet than normal highway tires. Neither would be any good on ice.  The off road tires would probably be better in snow, I agree. I'm personally not planning on ever towing in snow or ice anyway, I'll just wait for the roads to get clear first.

There is a school of thought the LRE's are too stiff and cause a lot of vibration in trailers, some of our other members might weigh in on that.

In several states out in the civilized west, if there is snow on the road and a chain requirement is up [which usually happens when more than 8 large snow flakes stick to the road] chains are mandatory on both one set of drive wheels on the TV and one braking axle of the trailer.  Thus, you can have the most aggressive off road rock climbing tread you want and you still have to chain up.  I have no idea what they do in the uncivilized parts of the country.  Wink  And snow tires don't help with the braking needs of a trailer if it is icy.  But they really do look gnarly.

What are tire chains?  LOL

I've never seen them on the East Coast except maybe on snow plows. Nothing civilized about putting those things on. No one knows how to drive in snow in CA (and often not in rain either). Had to put them on in CA once or twice and they chewed up my wheel covers.

When I lived in NJ I quickly learned that in the Tri-State area, no one really knew how to drive in the snow or rain either.  It was bumper cars once the snow started to fly and when there was a little ice, they seem surprised that they actually had to slow down to keep a modicum of control.  Even the cops didn't seem to grasp the concept that wet ice was a tad slippery.  No, they're just as bad at driving in inclement weather in the east as in CA, well except for southern CA.

And now with so many AWD cars it's rare to see anyone with snow chains in CA.
