Topic: New pigtail was leaking propane Posted: 11 Apr 2019 at 6:39pm |
I kept smelling a strong odor of propane whenever I turned on the tank valve, so I spritzed a bit of liquid soap on the valve and fittings, and discovered that the pigtail from the regulator to the tank had a leak, right at the crimped area behind the knob, and it's 'brand new'.
So I went to a local propane supplier and bought a new one, slightly longer, and about $23. Installed in a few minutes. The new one I bought is leak free, so then I proceeded to check all the other fittings, and found no other leaks. This leak was outside, so there was little danger of a problem, other than losing propane slowly whenever the tank valve was turned on. So, check your fittings, it's all too easy to 'assume' things are perfect when the RV is new! |

As saying goes s**t happens and sorry it happened to you but you went about the right way diagnosing and correcting the problem. If your camper is still under warranty I think I'd be calling FR for a refund or if it was a dealer who installed dual tanks and regulator I'd be calling them.

Not worried about $23....and my dealer is about 80 miles away.
I will save warranty claims for expensive items. But the main point is: Check those fittings because you never know!

I've had to replace ours also. The original leaked at the fitting where the line goes into the regulator. I had another fail at the Acme nut that attaches to the tank. It was very cold weather and something went wrong with the anti-backflow valve in that end. Now I have a stainless steel wrapped hose which I hope will last a good while. Thankfully, none of the replacements were all that expensive.
