Starting to make plans to head to Acadia National Park in Maine.  Never been there but love the pictures.  Looked at the campgrounds around there and they all seem to be "parking lots" with no trees or very expensive.  Looked in the park and there is Blackwoods - No hook ups but cheap.

Anyone been camping up in that area and have any ideas?

Ok looks like this is going to be the plan.  Pull out of PA lat Saturday Night Early Sunday Morning and get to the Cabelas in Scarborough, Maine and spend the night on thier parking lot.  If that falls apart a bit north is LL Bean and we will stay on their parking lot.  Monday we will pull into Blackwood Campsite in Acadia Camp and stay 3 nights.  Leave Acadia on Thursday and head south back to the Boston / Salem Mass area for 3 nights.  Going to try to stay off the grid for the whole trip.

I looked in an old camping book and did not reconize anything. I know we booked one night, then decided it would take us another day as least to see what we wanted to see before continuing on North. Yes, everything there is expensive. I see a map and I am pretty sure we were on RT.27 before getting to Boothbay. We LOVE Wiscasset, had thought to buy a summer place there Many years ago, then decided to start motor homing instead in order to see more places for our money.
We and another couple were doing the Nova Scotia trip, first time going Up East in a motorhome. The husband and I have always gone up to New England in a small sports car and stayed at B&B's. Like anyplace , the popularity of a place (with the likes of us)makes it overcrowed.Ouch But I know there are places that are still tranquil.  This I know because living here where I do, we are overun and a lot of people make the choice not to come because of that. There are places, many of them, that are not overcrowded here, just have to get through the rest of it and know where to look.

Rpodcamper....Its been years since I have been to Acadia National Park but I remember getting a self guided tour on cd (ok, maybe it was so long ago that it was on cassette)...Anyway, it was wonderful!  I would recommend that if they still offer it.

They still do have the CD-Rom Tour.  Planning on taking that and using it.  I also found an Educators Guide to the Park on their website loaded with all kinds of information.  (like 300+ pages)

Well were scheduled to go last Saturday for a week.  But our Trailblazer decided it did not feel like going. (Broke down within an hour of when we planned to leave).  So now I'm out looking at full size trucks to tow with.  Any one want a Trailblazer that was taken out back and shot?
