I have a 6 pin plug in on my pickup and I think the rpod needs a 7 - Is there an adapter available?

You need the opposite, 6 way tow vehicle to 7 way trailer. 

like this:


But 6 way is uncommon these days so you might want to just remove your 6 way tow vehicle connector and replace it with a 7 way.

May be I counted wrong I'll double check. The truck is a 2003 GMC 1500 Sierra.

A 7-pin connector has six pins arranged in a circle and the seventh pin is in the center of that circle. You may have missed the center one.
