Welcome!  We have the standard 10 x 10, and you are right that it won't fit over the door.  A friend with a popup has the same problem and uses 4 milk crates to give it a little extra height to get over their door.  I haven't tried that with the 'pod.  We don't mind a gap and often have to place the EZ-up away from the 'pod anyway due to the layout of the campsite.

Welcome MandaHolmes!

We've got an r-dome, and we'll set it up when we're meeting up with camping friends and its going to be cold or wet and we need the extra gathering space.  The rest of the time, when its just the two of us, we use a little awning that I had made:

Our awning takes three minutes to set up or take down, fits in the r-dome channel and suits our needs for a little bit of shade or protection from rain very well.  I find a well made polyester weave awning mat to be essential as well.

Outbound,
Did you make the awning or did you have it made? Either way, how could we find out how to make it or who to contact to have one made. It looks purrfect!

I had our awning made by bearcreekcanvas.com who are specialists is replacing popup camper canvases.  I had used them before to make a new canvas for our last trailer and was very happy with the quality of materials and workmanship.  Bear Creek included the poles and guy ropes with the awning.

Our awning is 6'4" wide - I didn't want to go any wider as I didn't want it to be affected too much by the curve of the trailer.  I was also concerned that a wider awning could interfere with the door.

Anyway... call Al at Bear Creek and speak with him (I suggest that you call instead of email).  He's a nice guy and will be happy to answer your questions and offer you his advice.

I ordered the 7' awning from Bear Creek Canvas yesterday before I picked up our new R-pod. We have an EZ-up and a screen room so in some ways the R-Dome would be over kill. I was looking for something I could put up when we are traveling for those short evenings when you want a little shade or have the door covered if it is raining.  I like the looks of the R-Dome and will probably buy one because we also like to spend a week at the lake and having the extra space would be nice. I have read reviews about the Bear Creek product and was impressed. These are custom made so you could have anything added you wanted. Look forward to trying it out next week when it arrives before our labor day beach trip
