Hi there! I recently purchased a 2017 R-Pod 179 (Hood River Edition) from a private seller here in Idaho. I'm excited to join the R-Pod community.

For 18 months in 2017 and 2018, my husband and I rented out our home and lived/worked on the road in our 1991 Astro Tiger XL. It was an amazing experience, and we were both a little crestfallen to return to our house in mid-2018. We live in a beautiful place, but we fell in love with the freedom of the road.

My husband is joining my business, which will give us more time to travel, but we knew we couldn't both work in our Tiger (which is a tiny Class C, 16 feet bumper to bumper!). We'd always admired the R-Pods when we lived on the road, and after checking out plenty of different brands of trailers, we landed on the 179.

We're towing with a F-150 FX4, V6 with Ecoboost. We've been on a week-long shakedown trip, and planned mods include roof-mounted solar, a new mattress and reinforced bed frame, replacing the dinette cushions, and maybe replacing the dinette table. I also plan to build a removable standup desk for the kitchen counter.

I hope to see some of you out on the road!

Sara

Welcome to the Rpod Nation!  Glad your first "glitch" was fairly easily solved.

Whereabouts in Idaho are you?  I'm assuming from your screen name in the Salmon area?

I grew up in Pocatello, graduated from Moscow and worked for the US Forest Service near McCall.

Welcome. Love the Astro Tiger, very cool vehicle, nothing else quite like it. Congrats on the 179, we love ours.

Re working on board, not sure if that's computer work or not but my wife does that off and on. She uses the rpod TV as a second monitor connected to her laptop on the dining table. I changed the ac TV out for a dual voltage one so we don't need to have an inverter running. I also added a cell phone booster and a directional antenna to improve signal strength for the data connection in remote areas.

It's a good guess from my screen name! My husband spent some time working for the USFS near Salmon, and we named our dog Lemhi.

We live in the Sun Valley area. Smile

We love our Tiger, too. I wish we could both work in it, because it's the ideal vehicle. Nimble, AWD, super easy to fix when things go wrong, and a perfect layout inside. We're getting it ready to sell, and I'm already heartbroken to see it go.

Yes to computer work—I'm a writer. Great tip about using the TV as a second screen, and replacing it with a dual voltage screen. We haven't needed a WeBoost (or similar) yet, but it's been on the radar for awhile. We use Campendium (and the iPhone app "Coverage?") to find campsites with workable cell reception.

If we didn't have the rPod I'd be interested in your Tiger, but one RV at a time is enough. I'm sure you'll have people lined up to buy it.

Yes, we have a Weboost, plus the Wilson directional antenna which is attached to an extension pole I clamp to the slide edge on the 179. Works well unless we're down in a hole and there's no signal at all. The boosted phone acts as a wifi node for the laptop and tablet and the second phone can use wifi calling from the boosted phone.

I recommend the topper mattresses from Camping World. We bought one for our 2018 180 and it made a world of difference!. Our topper has two inches of foam and two inches of gel. It was about $150.
