Topic: cook top burners during travel Posted: 23 Aug 2019 at 2:49pm |
Hi folks,
I know you all have come up with lots of tricks and mods to deal with little annoyances so I'm hoping for some advice. My cook top burner grates bounce off during travel and I have to go look for them in the camper when I reach my destination. Has anyone come up with a way to secure them? I have a cutting board that lives on top of them for daily use but I move that when traveling. I can remove the burner grates too but I'm trying to minimize how much of that I can't be the only one with this problems. Thoughts? Julie

Does than happen on a highway or only off road on a bumpy road. We never had that happen but we have only traveled on smooth highways with occasional bumps. Maybe the grates could be bent a little to fit tighter in the slots.

We had that problem, there is a split in the ring , just pull it apart a bit then when you put it back on you may have to squeeze it a bit to fit the 3 holes

Most of my travels have included highways and bumpier places so I don't know if its always or just in the bum[pies. I think bending the metal a bit with my pliers is a good idea. I'll give that a try. Thanks!

You can pull it apart with your hands

I've become used to the earthquake we have as we travel.
Carefully opening the pantry, clothes cab, frig, name it... Cooktop has been lay a towel over the burners and close the top. Works so far.
It's become a game for us as to what is on the floor vs. what has stayed and what we did. I've added cam locks to most everything to keep them closed. Wifey has done so many cloth separators and has worked pretty well. Do things still fall, open or sick up, heck ya! We're a traveling earthquake! LOL
Now, my BBQ is another issue.. Haven't worked out a good solution to that one yet..

So glad I asked about this thing that had bothered my for months. I had not noticed the break in the rings but was able to open them a bit and I'm pretty sure that will work. I was imagining scrunched up tin foil underneath or some crazy/messy thing. Thanks all.
