Also just in: Shoshone National forest campgrounds closed for a while.  That would be in Wy Cody, Lander, Dubois areas and by the NE entrance to YNP road to Cooke City, Mt.  A lot of the country is snowed under right now so it doesn't impact the higher elevation campgrounds, yet.

To an extent I get the Parks closings.

Sorry, but I do not get closing the Forests...

Folks, there are people out there trying to live.. Most I talk to are just trying to get home without overnighting someplace weird. A few I know live out there and just looking for a place to ride this out.

It's become a 'Hide in place' situation.

This has just gone far beyond.... I'll stop here. God help us all if this ever gets real...

It's pretty real. If we never get around to testing it will get more than real because we still don't know the extent of the problem.

+1 to Glue Guy.  Viruses know no boundaries and could give a flying fig about someone's politics, nationality, or religion.  I pray that we will find a vaccine sooner than later.  Sadly, due to lack of testing available, we are only seeing the tip of the iceberg.  And for every person infected, s/he infects at least 2 more.

I agree it's real. We need to care for each other. It's not that bad to be home and with your family. If I never camped again, I have a million great memories.

There is no vaccine and there won’t be one for this round. It will peak before one can possibly be ready. Forget the movies, it doesn’t work that way in the real world.   There is no sign yet in the US numbers of any fall in the rate of exponential increase in either cases or deaths. If anything the doubling time of the death rate is shortening a little.

Control of transmission is the only way right now. And by definition that limits what we Americans cherish as our personal freedoms. There will be more than one round too, resurgence is inevitable unless lockdowns are continued indefinitely, and they can’t be. The 1918 flu had three rounds in the US before enough ppl contracted it to build up herd immunity.

The countries coming through this first round best are the ones acting most aggressively in curbing transmission by limiting movement and interaction of people. For the undemocratic ones thats pretty easy. Some are democratic but most of those (like S Korea and Singapore) are not nearly as culturally resistant to government interventions as we are.

So let’s be real, not getting to go camping is not a hardship. A hardship is what’s happening to tens of millions of poor ppl locked down in India who only eat today if they work today.

If you've got the time (ha ha), it would be worth your while to read this article about the hammer and dance. It outlines most of the basic issues and options. It suggests that if we get very, very aggressive with testing (like South Korea did), then we could possibly get a handle on this relatively quickly. Sadly, it appears that we are not yet getting our act together for this option.

Thanks for the link to that very informative article, Glue Guy.

Sadly, it seems that we are letting our differences interfere with real science and will pay dearly.
