I’m curious what others have used to cover the hole left when removing the sink from the bathroom in a 179?  I’d like to make it accessible so I can get to the rats nest of wiring in that wall.

Being it's you asking, tell me the size of the hole. I may have some of the faux plastic wood in the garage the could fit over.

Rout a lip and round the edge, voila!

I still have that battery tender sitting on my counter for ya...

I would like to do the same thing.
Can you tell me some details please--
did you leave the faucet set intact so you can still use the shower?
how did you cap off the drain pipe?
any advice?
how do you like the final product?
Thank you
Vann

This is a post from a while back on how I did it.  And yes, I left the faucet intact so I can use the shower.
I do like this mod a lot and would do it again.

Regarding the sink removal, I removed the sink then cut off the drain pipe back inside the wall (but close to the coupling so I could put another one on if I ever wanted to) with a "cable style" pvc cutter.

I bought a piece of Plaskolite polystyrene (0.050" thickness, I think) sheet, cut it to size to cover the hole, and painted it with a closely matching color of plastic paint.

After cleaning both the wall plastic and the new Plaskolite with alcohol, I applied Locktite Plastics Bonding System glue to both the wall plastic and the new plastic cover, positioned it carefully, and stuck it on.

I bought plastic rivets from Forest River in the right size and color to match what was in the bathroom, drilled holes, and put them on.  (I also used these rivets to fix the bathroom wall plastic near the door that was buckling up when the interior got hot.  Several Podders have mentioned this issue previously.)

I filled the remaining holes in the bathroom walls by smoothing them out and then filling them with clear 100% silicone calking and the dabbed matching paint over the calking with a Q-Tip.

I got everything to do the job at Home Depot.

I tried the method described by SteveA (heating and flattening the curved sink plastic) but my remnant was not big enough to fully cover the hole in the wall.

I can send pics of the finished project if you send me a PM.

Thanks for the info ya'll.  I want to keep the wall accessible as I know I am at least running wires for solar panels.  Are the FR rivets easily removable?

OD, we need to get together soon.  Would love to see how your camper is coming along.

The rivets would have to be drilled out, I think.  But it would be easy to do that.

LOL... Which one? This is about to go back on the truck tomorrow. Yes, it's upside down... don't get nervous..

The Rpod is getting picked up this weekend so my budget for the 'Final Camper' is now in place.

Let me know the hole size and I'll make you up a cover for it. Heck, push come s to shove I'm getting pretty good at this XPS/fiberglassing thing! Pick you shape or style! LOL

We just replaced the sink in our 179 with a “marine toilet paper holder”. We screwed it into the wood in the back of the hole. We covered the rest of the hole with a very thin hard cardboard piece and then peel and stick vinyl tile in a wide band on the two sides of the shower. Looks & works great!!
