I wish to give everybody a big HELLO out there as a prospective new 192 R pod owner and member of this forum. Before I give a dealer my hard earn money I want to find out about towing a R pod 192. My wife and I both love the R Pod 192 because of the walk around bed and of course the quality and aerodynamic design of the 192. We have a 2017 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited V6 2WD with tow package. The tow capacity is 6200 lbs. Given that do you think the Jeep grand cherokee can  tow the R pod 192 safely and comfortably. Most of our camping is done within 1200 miles of home from flat Florida to the Blue Ridge mountains of Georgia. I would really appreciate your thoughts on it. Thanks so much.

You should be quite comfortable with your Cherokee and your 192.  Welcome.

The RP192 has a full-up weight of ~~ 4860 lbs. That is comfortably within the weight range of your Jeep. Be careful of the tongue weight, and you will probably want to use a good WDH with some built-in sway control. None of the R-pods are actually all that "aerodynamic", so don't get your hopes up there.

Good luck on your endeavor! We look forward to hearing from you.

Thanks guys I appreciate your input. I like to tow at about 75% of my total tow capacity and I will be in range but I wonder if the length is a little to long. I sure dont want the tail to wag the dog especially as those 18 wheelers go bye. Also I wonder if my V6 with 290 hp will be ok. Dont need to be going up hill at 5000rpm.

You'll be fine with that rig as long as you're relaxed about passing and uphill climbs.  If you get a good wdh with sway control you will have both belt and suspenders on the tail wagging the dog scenario. Just avoid too much load behind the trailer axle either inside or in the water tanks. You want to keep the tongue weight at least at 10% of total trailer weight to avoid any sway tendency. If you want to be sure you can get an actual loaded weight on the trailer and tongue, its good for your confidence level if nothing else.

Jim, I just wrote the check for the down payment on a 192.  We are going to pull it with a 2019 Jeep Grand Cherokee.  Dealer is giving me the WDH and sway control.  Can't wait for it to get here.  Congrats and good luck!

The 192 is a great floorplan. I would guess that you will love it. I pull a 195 with a frontier, about the same tow capacity, and in most areas I go, it pulls just fine. I've never gotten up to 5000 rpm, but if I want to pick up speed climbing hills, I've gotten to about 4200. All things are relative, if you want to be able to pass everybody going up hill, It's probably not your ideal tow vehicle. If you are just going along, and enjoying the ride, you'll be fine. Good luck, congrats, and let us know when you have questions to ask, or experience to share.

The more important question is can you tow it safely?  While I've towed a lot of boats and a few trailers, nothing has been as big as my Pod.  Patience, caution and a chill attitude is a big part.

As to aero, I never have to use the brakes going down mountains in Tennessee, even an 8% grade.
