Hello once again!

Does anyone know what the "hub-face to face" measurement is on a *new* (meaning un-bent, un-twisted, un-ruined) Lippert torsion axle for a 2015 R-pod 178? I really don't want to lie under there with a measuring tape - I don't see how this measurement is possible with the wheels on anyway - and deal with cranky fire ants! Cry

Can you see labels on the current axle? If so, then those will have the information on the correct axle for your RPod. Here is an example:

I believe the number in the third group (89.5 in the photo) is the axle length and the 4th group is the frame attachment dimension, but you should confirm.

Thanks Steve. My sticker says 89.5 as well. Does this mean if there is an issue with camber and toe-in that the measurement would be different?

You won't be able to tell if you have a camber issue from the axle length measurement, any change would be negligible.  You'll have to either see negative camber by looking for the wheel or wheels to be tilted inward at the tops or run a string line from end to end under the axle and see how much crown there is in the center. Should be about 3/16 or so. Sorry about the fire ants but there isn't another way to do it AFAIK.

Thanks for your expeditious replies! The negative camber is quite noticeable and the toe-out (I previously incorrectly stated toe-in) is less noticeable but noticeable nonetheless. I inherited it when I bought the RP 178 earlier this year but I didn't think it would be an actual issue. I've now read enough about bearing failures on this model axle to become alarmed.

I should point out belatedly that the negative camber and toe-out is only on the slider-side. I thought it was normal! My GW is 3500 lbs and while we do pile on things inside we try our best to keep things balanced and forward of the axle.

The slide side is heavier. The axle will have less than 3500 lbs on it (subtract the tongue weight) but then you have to also consider bump loading. No way to know on a used trailer what it was subjected to. 

I hadn't heard bearing failure was an issue before. If its the bearing then the wheel will have slop when you push and pull on it after jacking it up. 

Sounds like a bent axle to me. I would still confirm though by checking the crown. You might be able to find a shop that can re-camber it for you, but it will be weaker due to work hardening from the original failure. I would reinforce it for sure.
