Again, thank you Mike.  Just ordered the Revolution pump you recommended and got it on E-bay for $ 56.53, will get it in a week.

Jato,

I'd be very interested in your opinion of new pump.  I hate to recommend items and then have a less than positive result, though I did.  THANKS partner.

May be a bit before I get to it as it is supposed to be sub-zero temps this weekend going into next.  Don't like getting my pinkies that cold and the pump isn't the easiest to get to especially when all the wires and water lines are so stiff in cold weather.  When it gets a bit warmer, like in the upper 20's I will go and tackle it and probably run the propane furnace.  Actually now that I am actually thinking, it really doesn't matter how cold it is outside, that has proven to be a fantastic furnace over the past 10 years, regardless of the outside temp.  Will let you know when it is changed.  Should be okay to run dry to hear how quiet it is?  I blow lines out with compressed air so no worries with the pink stuff.

No problem running it dry for a few seconds but of course that will only really test the motor. To be sure the pump primes, pressurizes the system, the “infamous” check valve works, and to see what it will actually sound like, you will need to have water in it. Sounds like that won’t happen for awhile in your area. Brrr.

Jato,

I also have Pod in storage, no hurry from me meant.  When you do install and test would value your opinion.

Yaaa, weather is going to turn nippy this weekend.  Highs around 10 with lows around 3.  Supposed to get 12" or more of snow from Thursday - Saturday.  Usually don't get much with that cold of temp however since Lake Michigan and Torch Lake are still totally open (no ice) it is a very real probability.  Being OCD, if something needs to be installed, like the pump, it will get installed, even if I can't run water through it for the next 10 weeks.

Pump came in today and no way am I going to trudge through all the snow to hook this puppy up.  However it is a balmy 18 in the garage so I tested it 'dry' for about 3 - 4 seconds and WOW it is a lot quieter than the original that is still in the 177, now 10 years old.  In the past I ran the one in the 177 dry for a few seconds, and it is definitely much louder.

After that thought it would be interesting to check voltage in those 10 year old batteries that have been sitting on that concrete floor for 13 weeks, when they were given a 2 amp trickle charge.  Results are 12.88 volts on one and the other shows 12.72 volts so it would appear they will be good to go for season number 11.

Hi Jato, good luck with your new pump. When we got our pod the pump clonking and banging, I took out the pump held it in my hand turned it it on while hooked up to water supply, it purred like kitten. I then suspended the pump, insolated all the pipes and she purrs like a kitten.

We mounted our water pump on a 1.5" dense foam block and insulated all of the water lines.  It made things a lot quieter.
