RPOD 180 question. Thanks in advance for more wisdom. I'd be lost without this forum.

I rarely travel with water in my fresh water tank because of the weight, the affect on gas mileage, and, because I'm close to my wallet and hate to spend money foolishly...the increased cost of gas. So with that in mind, after camping for four nights and using the city water hookups, I was checking the control panel and the fresh water tank indicated that it was 2/3 full. Scratched my head because I intentionally didn't put water in the tank and subsequently drained it at a rest stop. How did it get in there?

There is a check valve in the water pump that is supposed to keep water from flowing back into the fresh water tank when you're on city water pressure. Yours is leaking. Very common,

First try cycling the check valve to see if you can clear it. Turn off the city water. Turn on the water pump and run some water through. Turn off the pump, turn on the city water again and run some water. Repeat a few times.

It that doesn't work you will need to pull the pump. Its not a hard job. A rebuild kit is about $12-$15. Or, you can buy a new pump for about $60.

Was having the same issue.  Glad I check the forum.  Tried as Offgrid suggested and that fixed the problem.  Thanks

I had that exact problem.  Pump replacement is a breeze, after the bed is out.  plan to add inline connectors to make the next replacement easier.  You can get a new pump for the $60 +/- mentioned above.  I have not found an overhaul "kit" but there are parts available for it.  Mine came with a screen filter in the intake side.  It had a significant amount of polyethylene shavings in it.  That might be the reason the pump check valve doesn't close.  If you have time, remove, disassemble and clean out the pump and see if that does it.  I needed to have mine ready, quickly, so I put in a new pump.

I got tired of the "clearing " procedure and replaced pump.  New pump is much quieter.

Which water pump did you purchase and did you get it on ebay?  Mine is 10 years old and although still works, has always been quite noisy.

Hey Jato,

It's a Sureflo and I bought it at Camping World.  It was a newer model at that time.  I looked at Sureflo Website and they don't make the model anymore and suggest new pumps are quieter.  I'll check today and see if old pump is in building, if so I would have put it in new box.

Jato, I did have old pump and new box:)  I replaced a 4008-101 A65 Shurflo with the newer Revolution 4008-101 E65.  It is much quieter.  Both were 3GPM 55PSI pumps.  Amazon wants 60 for them, Camping World has them on sale for 150???????.

Thank you Mike!  LOL Yep, good 'ol Camping World.  If you want to spend the most buck for your bang, shop there.  I am going to order that today, it will be my 2nd mod for the year.  Definitely much cheaper than my first mod this year, replacing the 10 year old Dometic with another similar Dometic RM 8501 - not cheap.
