Hi guys. I just purchased a brand new 2021 R Pod 196. I owned other campers before, but I am new to R Pod. I live in Colorado, but I had to go all the way to Las Vegas, NV to get this baby (it was the last new Hood River Edition R-P 196 in Diamond Ice color and Sandbar interior).

Question for you guys: My R Pod came with a 20lb propane tank enclosed in a black hard shell cover (single tank only). Does anybody know if a 30lb propane tank would fit in this hard shell cover?

Hello. Congratulations and welcome. I hope you have many fun adventures and make many great memories with your RPod. As for the cover, a 30 lb tank will not fit that cover. The 30 lb tank is significantly taller than the 20 lb tank.

Welcome to the forum.  Glad you saw the light and came to NV to buy your trailer. Big smile

Yeah, I measured a 30# tank to see if it would fit under that cover on my 195...no go.

Curious if anyone has rigged a 195/96 for two 20# tanks.

Dual 20 lb cylinders are a better option than a single 30 for several reasons. They're easy to handle. You can swap them anywhere if you need to. You can leave one connected while you get the other filled so you never run out. You can get an automatic switchover so supply is't interrupted and you have a visual indicator that you have an empty tank. You can keep one tank portable to run a grill or a generator and still have it as a backup for the trailer.

If your tow vehicle can handle the tongue weight you should be able to install a dual tank setup on the tongue, or you can carry one of the two tanks in your tow vehicle.

So...are most dual-mount systems more-or-less universal, e.g.,

I did such a dual tank mod on our 179. You can see it by way of the link in my signature (along with all my other mods, some of which you may find useful and others, probably not so much).

I would think they are universal but there might be one that works on your rpod better than another might, so you're asking the right question of the forum to see if someone can report a specific successful install.

Thank you all for your inputs, recommendations, and feedback. I might just leave it alone and keep another 20lb bottle in my truck bed as spare. Big smile

That works too. I carry one for my grill-stove, lantern, and fire pit.
