I have a 30 pounder AND a 20 pounder....best of both worlds. I use the 30 pounder mounted up front as the main, and carry a 20 pounder as a backup/exchange if needed, and it can also supply my catalytic heater or my cookstove. The 30 pounder lasts a LONG time.

BTW I ditched that POS black plastic cover. Always in the way, does nothing.

Our second mod on our 177, after changing the mattress was to install 2 20# tanks with a corresponding white plastic cover.  9+ years later both are holding up real well.  Am amazed at how many people with the hard plastic propane covers put them on backward so that if the plastic screws aren't cinched down that hold the top door on, it blows off.

It does do something. On a hot sunny day it will collect a lot of solar energy and heat up your propane cylinder nice and hot.  There is a reason propane cylinders are painted white.....

If you do want to cover the propane cylinder for security or some other reason get a white cover.

Podwerkz,

With your 30lb bottle mounted up front, were you still able to put the black plastic cover over it?
