The air conditioner on our 176 T R-pod is extremely noisy. It is impossible to hear the radio or the TV when it is on. Camping World advertises an self-installed 'muffler' for about $200 but we are skeptical about investing in it because it appears to be the same solution that we tried already with foam and other insulating material to contain the noise. Is it possible to have a quiet AC in an R-pod?

Is it possible.. yes, but spendy. It's not that the R-Pod a/c is loud.. it's that it is right next to your head, and you can't get very far away from it.
You could change to a mini split system with some modification, you could change to a 5-8k window unit with more modification, you could change to a smaller a/c roof mount, 9 or 11k.. etc.. |

The mini split would be whisper quiet and almost twice the efficiency. The condenser could go on the tongue where the battery box is. The problem with that and any residential solution is going to be that vibration from travel work hardens the refrigerant tubing and results a refrigerant leak.
Most folks just live with the noise and get used to it. Set it so the fan stays on and then at least it's a continuous noise. |

Also, shut the big vent and just use the ones around the edges. You will hear the difference.

we took off the outside shroud/cover in order to install an Easy Start. upon close inspection, we found one of the fan motor mounting bolts had vibrated loose. The bolt was lying loose in the AC enclosure. After re-installing the bolt and tightening several others, the unit was much quieter due to lack of vibration. It may be worth while to open the top and check all the bolts for tightness, Vann
