Road damage

I just got back from Maine and the roads in Massachusetts and Conneticut were awful lots of ruts and anywhere you were going over an overpass there were jolting "bumps" where roadway connected to overpass.  Our rPOD has something going on the right front corner and the railing that is along the underside shook loose and will need repair.  Also we had a panel that in the right section of the slide out.  Not the portion that moves. Panel fell off and will need to be replaced.  I hope I can still get it from the factory.  Is this normal fair for long trips?  Can't see how you can avoid crappy roads.

Similar story on some Illinois roads. A large part of the state has heavy clay soil, and back in the day, the soil expansion/contraction would create frost heaves that were just brutal. I think more modern road construction has alleviated most of this, but older roads still have the issue. The rule is slow down and save your stuff.

In Indiana, we slowed to between 50 and 55 from the 60 we had been traveling, but it was sure a lot easier to avoid the holes and bumps.  Since over/underpass transitions are often uneven, I generally slow a little for those too.  As for other drivers, well, we sure got passed a lot and some drivers certainly left their manners at home.  In nearly 7,600 miles I think I passed about 10 trucks.  All the others passed us.
