We went to Saylorville Lake (Iowa) this weekend just to plan ahead for next year and see which campgrounds we want to stay out.  Very pretty lake and lovely campsites.  This campsite is in Cherry Glenn which has lots of trees.  Prairie Flower is newer with less trees, but lots of space between campsites and the sites are all paved.

A couple more pictures.  The lake is 24 miles long.  The most expensive camping is $24 for full hook-up.
There are 500 campsites and each campground has different amenities as one is no alcohol, one has group sites, etc.  26 miles of trails along the Des Moines river and lake, boat rental, etc.  Reservations can be made with www.recreation.gov or 877-444-6777.
It is US Army Corps of Engineers  see more info www.corpslakes.us/saylorville
The season closed last weekend for camping so we were just spotting which campground and where we want to stay next spring.

That sounds lake a great place!  Twenty six miles of trails!  Do you know if they allow bicycles on the trails?

They sure do.  What are your plans to transport your bike?  We have thought about putting the spare tire in the storage underneath and getting a bike rack for the back.  Our bike rack is for the 2" hitch, so we need to buy a different one.  What do you recommend?

Be careful - someone tried a bike rack on the back and it tore the welds.  Make sure you get it reinforced by a welder first.

My bike is 7 1/2 feet long so it wouldn't work on a hitch.  It rides inside the camper.  Do a search for Dyno Roadster and you can see what they look like.  No, it isn't a 2 seater either.

You guys should come for RAGBRAI next summer if you like to ride.  Everyone who does it, loves it.  (Register's Annual Great Bike Ride Across Iowa).  Lots of riders from all over the country.  My husband and I want to, but have never put the training into it.  Maybe next summer.  Smile

My knees don't bend far enough to pedal a bike so I cheat.  It has a 1.5HP gas engine on it.  No offense to the spandex crowd intended but most of them look down their noises at me because of the motor.  Even bicycle shops don't want anything to do with a motorized bicycle.  One shop came right out and told me "Don't ever bring THAT THING here again".  All I wanted was to have the rims trued.
