Bleach won't affect the anode rod. RV antifreeze would which is one reason besides not wanting to fill it up with antifreeze to bypass the water heater, pull the anode rod, and drain it while winterizing.

Using bleach to disinfect water tanks is not new to every RV, but how much bleach is needed to disinfect an RV water tank. We need to know the exact amount to kill pathogens and keep them at a safe level. In general, we will need one cup of bleach for every 50 gallons of water. Therefore, if your water tank has a capacity of 25 gallons, use ½ cup bleach. If your water tank can hold 12-13 gallons of water, use 1/4 cup. |

The R-Pod has a 30 gallon tank. The water heater is 6 gallons. That is a total of 36 gallons. So, 3/4 cup bleach would be appropriate if one is using the formula of 1 cup per 50 gallons capacity.

I noticed when reading through this thread that some may be running the bleach through the toilet. I thought that you should never put bleach in the black tank?

Well, you do need to sanitize that water line also. You don't want to leave any bacteria in the supply line that could migrate back through and contaminate the rest of the water system. That is my thought. It really isn't that much bleach that is being added to the black tank in proportion. It is also of a weak concentration. Once the process is done, if you really are concerned, drain and flush the black tank and add a good biological tank treatment. If it is already empty, the bleach should dissipate quickly since the black tank is vented. You could just treat the tank and I think you will be fine. It has worked well for me since we got the RPod.

The amount of bleach needed to sanitize the RV tank is about one cup of bleach for every 40 gallons. A 43-ounce bottle of bleach can cost $10 or more, depending on the brand, but you can save a lot of money by using it for routine RV water tank cleanup.
