We have 2016 179 and the room that attaches to the side. What I'm wondering is if we can install an awning also. Is there framing support for one? I had heard that if it didn't come with one that you cannot attach one. Is this true?

You can easily attach an awning to the keder rail that runs along the top on the non-slide-out side. However, having a retractable awning similar to what comes on some new Rpods requires framing support to be built into the wall, which your Rpod will not have.

We also have a 179 and constructed our own awning.  we bought keder tape from an online source and sewed it on the edge of an 8'x12' tarp. We use 3 adjustable poles and it works great.

I like the Keder tape and tarp idea. Does that tape slide in and out easily?

An alternative to using Keder tape is to use sail slides, spaced at a convenient distance.  Since they usually made of a hard plastic or nylon, they move easier through the rail and tend not to get stuck like the tape can.  They are available in various sizes to fit the different rail sizes.  Here is an example of what they look like: https://www.velasailingsupply.com/ronstan-sail-slide-stainless-bail-48mm-x-11mm/?sku=RONPNP103&gclid=Cj0KCQjw29CRBhCUARIsAOboZbIRomkJP2-Uirsl5To515l-lTw58NjavVz3LFCkkwi--qvYhDIfn_gaAnKmEALw_wcB

the keder tape will slide in the channel.  However, sometimes the screws  holding the channel in place have not be tightened properly and the heads will protrude, causing some resistance.  Once you tighten the screws, it will slide easier.
I have also used a dry spray lube that helps.  Overall, it is still a great system and we are happy with the results.
safe travels

I'm traveling so sewing the keder strip isn't possible. I'm using heavy duty suction cups, adjustable poles and a "sail shade" all from Amazon for about &75. It's working really well. Maybe this link will show it off:

That was very kind of you, thanks. I've had no luck with the posting process within the forum.
