Yes. Remove the screws in the surround and slide it out if I recall correctly.

At costco the other day -- they had an interesting counter top bake oven that I thought might replace the one in our 179. I seem to have trouble remembering the directions after i close the door on the factory combo oven that gets very little use.

Ya, Ill look for one that vents thru the front like the one I have at home. Granted it is one thats above the stove which I really like since its completely out of the way. Will have to yank old one out and get some measurements. Not to worried about it, good winter project!! Am considering getting a new rig(no rush by any means), a little bigger (not much). I may start a new thread to start getting ideas,
recommendations, thoughts, etc. jon

Installing a generic microwave in an RV probably require some attention to air flow around the microwave, thus either an open space around it or some kind of decorative grill surround would be in order.
We don't like those huge over stove microwaves, especially since we don't use it much, and don't like one sitting on the kitchen counter, so I built a cabinet for our kitchen to have a "built in" microwave out of the way. I had to be sure to have adequate space in the cabinet design to allow for air flow. Since I am not a microwave design engineer, I haven't a clue if there is enough, but so far we haven't burned down the house heating the occasional cup of coffee.

Hogone, on the off chance your micro quit because of a voltage problem where you are/we're camping, you might want to try it again somewhere else before replacing it.

"Any old microwave" would work, but you would need to figure out how to keep it in place. RV microwaves have the trim kit to keep it from falling out as you are rolling down the road. That being said, in spite of the claim of RV microwaves being "ruggedized" to take the bouncing around in an RV, I don't see how they are any different inside from a non-RV model.

Curious, can one just buy any old microwave, or does it need to be an "RV" microwave as you mentioned above Stephen? jon

We use our microwave a lot when we have shore power or when I want to take the time to connect the generator. OTOH, we rarely use the convection part of it, so if it goes out (we are on our third), I will likely replace it with a plain microwave oven and use the folding Coleman camp oven for baking. That way, I can do that sort of thing outside and keep the heat out of the RPod.
I remember the oven/stove combinations my parents had in the trailer and the truck camper my parents had before they got their first motor home. In the days before seatbelt reqirements, we rode in the camper since there was no room in the cab for all of us as it was in the days before crew cabs became popular. We baked the Appian Way (or similar boxed mix) pizza while rolling down the road. We wouldn't be able to do that now.
