Hi,
There is fan in the center of the fuse area of my 2019 Forest River Rpod Hood River Edition that turns on and runs on it's own. Anyone know what this is for and how/if I can turn it off? I'm going off to boondock for several weeks and I don't want it to drain the batteries.

Thanks for your help!
Miranda

The fuse box contains the 120V AC to 12V DC inverter. The 12V charges the battery and runs the 12V lights, water pump, fan, radio, etc. The fan keeps the 12V inverter circuitry cool when it is putting out higher current.

+1. Make sure to keep the grill clean especially if you travel with a dog or cat.

Ahh okay I understand, thanks so much!

 - So the fan should only be running when the converter is drawing from the batteries (to operate lights, water pump, fan radio, etc), Check.

-so the fan should only be running when the devices are drawing from the batteries, Check.

My situation is that I don't have any devices on, but the fan is still running... any ideas on what could be causing that?

I've gone around and checked to make sure everything is off, and the only thing that appears "on" is the antenna(?) on the roof that has a red light on. Could that be drawing so much 12V that it's causing the fan to go on?

I'm stumped!

It will also run when you are plugged into shore power and the battery is taking a charge.

It will run even if you remove the battery and have the trailer plugged in. In that case, the converter is supplying the 12V power needed for the trailer's 12V circuits to operate. As others have said, the fan is to keep the converter from overheating.

Now to clarify something mentioned above. It is a Converter, not an Inverter. It takes 120V AC and uses that to provide 12V DC. An Inverter takes 12V DC and uses that to provide 120V AC.
