My husband says he was glad he flew when he did. Now is not even pleasant that I can see from my experience, but I was spoiled many years ago. AND even then he did not have the hey day of flying when people dressed, it was a journey and you knew you were going someplace special. I think he must have had the best that could be had what with his top pick of jet squadron, then after a few years , on to Pan Am when IT was the way to fly the world. He was lucky, liking his work (and I liked it too since I got to go where Pan Am went, can't beat that, would not have done so any other way.) But I am content having my Pod and still going on journiesA lot of the time what fate hands us turns out to be just what we needed.

Too funny, my first major in college was Aerospace. To become a professional pilot. Couldn't do military back then, no laser surgery yet to correct eyesight, they were glad to put me in the back seat but I said no. I got 33 hours in my first 2 years and then decided I didn't want to fly for a career. My last solo was a perfect dead calm day with several great touch-n-gos but I haven't flown since except in economy class. That was about 19 years ago. With all the changes to the airline industry over the last 10 years I'm glad I didn't go that route.

I might feel the same way about soaring through the air in a small aircraft. I know years ago the husband was taking a test flight(with the thoughts of qualifing in single engine light) . I was on the ground waiting and waiting and waiting. Apparently they had a good time, BUT it must be really different because he said Hail NO. And did not again consider, even thought one of his best buds(that was not in the avaition end as he was) had an airplane. He did monitor his friend to be sure he was responsible in all things(if we were meant to fly God would have given us wings) He said he did not feel in control, had not started out that way before, well sort of did, but T-33's, Navy training that led into jet school. He like flying that hot tube, first duty (and only) had him in F8U Crusaders (has been a museum piece for some time
Well, we 2 are fossils too. When he was retired he was in "heavies", 747's and Airbus. Anyway, I am off subject for this forum. I don't like height, but being in the air never bothered me but then I have not been in light aircraft either.
