I made up a couple of storage areas above the settee windows using 1/4" laminated hardboard. Right now the wood is unstained, will stain it a darker color once we get back from our weekend sojourn.

Great idea and looks good!

I used Varathane Light Walnut #236 on a recent project of mine and found it to be a very close match to the stock finish (well... sealer, two coats of stain followed by two coats of satin varnish).  Don't forget to finish the bare wood rails used to support the table in the down/bed position while you've got the stain out.
