There is seldom an August camping trip that Carrie and I haven't almost always regretted, but we always go for her birthday before the Kentucky State Fair. So as usual we are braving the heat.
We've decided to tackle and hunt the elusive Moonbow this year at Cumberland Falls. The Full Moon in August falls exactly with our camping schedule, and since our next chance to be off during the Full Moon isn't until December we're going to hope we get lucky one of the 4 nights here in August and get to see it.

What an interesting phenomenon.  This is the first time I've ever heard of a moonbow.  Hope you have good luck chasing the moon!

Yes we're very excited, we're discussing trying to borrow or get a decent enough camera to try and get pictures of it.  Without a long exposure timed photo  on a very steady trypod you can't see much.

The longer exposure photo's allow the colors of the rainbow to be visible instead of just the white beam.

If we fail here in August I guess we might try again in December.

Come on down if anyone is free, I think there are some sites left for August.  Smile

That sounds very cool.  I'm gonna have to try and check that out myself one of these days.  Never heard of it before.

Regarding August camping trips...head west.  August is actually the premier time to hit up places like Glacier National park, Banif, and Jasper.  If you go earlier in the summer, many of the trails are still to snow covered to use.
