Ok, this is a new one for me.  I'm wondering if the gate/valve is broken but I have no way to verify if its open or closed.  Any ideas?

Just one, and it's risky.  Get a bucket, put it at the end of the dump valve, take the cap off, and slowly pull the valve back, looking in with a light.  Make sure it's opening.  I'd think it's possible the valve is working, but that you have a clog in the drain.

I'm thinking that you have a clog, too.  I wonder if can try some Draino would work if done in small doses with the bucket idea that Fishtail is suggesting.

Ours had a clog (I blame the hubby)  LOL   We ended up getting one of those sprayer thingys from Camping World that sprays inside the tank.  Once we used that a couple of times, no more clog!   Good luck!

Ba-da-bing!

I did take the hose off a while ago and confirmed no liquid was coming out with the valve (supposedly) open.  I guess I'll find a stick that will go around the bend and see if I can push it farther than the location of the gate.  If I can I agree its a clog.  Then I think my only option is to unhook everything and go for a drive to work things loose.  What a pain that will be.

Scariest post I've ever read!

So I guess your tanks is currently completely full and won't dump?  Clog or not I can't imagine a full tank of pressure wouldn't push any clog out if the valve were open.

Around the bend?  Interesting...the valve on mine is right at the end of the pipe, like 2-3" from the opening.  No bend that I can remember.  I guess yours is in a different spot?  I'm surprised...I'll have to look at mine again to make sure it is where I think it is.

Either way, a good ole fashioned plumbing snake should get the job done.

I bought a fitting years ago that can be attached to a drain hose. It has a hose fitting on the side.   You attach it to the drain just like you would normally do and then attach a water hose to it.   When you turn on the water it blasts up into the tank which should dislodge anything blocking the drain. I'm pretty sure this fitting is still available. I bought this when I watched a fellow camper try to unclog his black water tank at a dump station with drastic results.
